A grand American sound. A powerful foundation for your ensemble.
Bring richness, depth and breadth to your bass section with the Wessex TB692P “Grand” BBb tuba. Inspired by the great American tubas of the past, the Grand combines the generous voice of a 6/4 instrument with a modern approach to response and intonation.
Designed by Chuck Nickles, formerly of the US Army Band, Europe, this front-piston BBb tuba is made for players who want a substantial ensemble sound. From a warm foundation beneath woodwinds to the weight of a full brass climax, the Grand gives the bass line a commanding musical presence.
A broad, rich 6/4 voice
The large body and 20-inch bell deliver the expansive tonal character associated with the American tuba tradition—an appealing choice for band and orchestral playing.
Traditional inspiration, modern refinement
The Grand’s design updates a classic concept, with attention to response and tuning so players can focus on shaping the music.
Vented stainless steel pistons
Four front-action pistons combine durable construction with venting designed to support smooth legato playing.
Carefully selected materials
A body made from 0.9mm high-grade 70/30 brass, a hardened bell and nickel slides form the core of its construction. The lacquered version features an 84/16 gold brass bell.
Distinctive finishing touches
Wyvern-engraved valve buttons add character, while the included Wessex custom mouthpiece and latched hard case complete the package.

Who is the Grand designed for?
It suits BBb players seeking a large, broad-sounding tuba to underpin a band or orchestra.
What does 6/4 mean?
It describes a large-bodied tuba. Tuba size labels are approximate rather than standardised measurements, so the listed dimensions and playing experience are useful when comparing instruments.
Does a larger tuba simply play louder?
Size also influences tonal character and how an instrument responds. The appeal of a large tuba is its breadth and depth of sound, including when supporting an ensemble at quieter dynamics.
How many valves does it have?
The Grand has four front-action piston valves.
Which finish should I choose?
Choose lacquer with a gold brass bell or silver plate according to your preferred appearance and maintenance routine.
Does it include a mouthpiece and case?
Yes. A Wessex custom mouthpiece and latched hard case are supplied.
Which optional gig bag fits?
The Wessex B800 is the specified gig bag for this model.
